Medipaw FAQ
Q: What's to stop the patient from chewing the boot?
A: Left unattended, not too much. However, patients wear the boot primarily when out for short and/or leashed walks under supervision, which diminishes this risk.
Q: Can the patient always wear the medipaw®?
A: The boot's nylon shaft is lined with a microporous polyurethane coating. This feature allows the boot to breathe and minimizes moisture build up inside. In very warm and damp climates, we do not recommend that the boot be worn for extended periods of time, unless the patient is in an air-conditioned environment. If there is a need for constant bandage protection, we suggest that owners and clinicians check the boot inside frequently to make sure there is no moisture.
Q: Do you provide a money back guarantee?
A: We guarantee our product and provide refunds for any manufacturing defects.
Q: Is the boot washable?
A: Yes, the boot is washable, in cool water and a gentle cycle. However, be sure to hang it dry, as a dryer will damage the nylon coating and the seam sealing.
Q: How does the boot stay on and not slip off?
A: The boot is secured with Velcro straps as well as an upper drawstring. The nylon's coating adheres well to Vetrap to prevent slippage.
FAQs about the Medical Pet Shirts
Q: Do all dogs and cats tolerate the MPS?
A: Yes, usually dogs and cats tolerate the shirt. It's the same as a onesie or a T-shirt except that the MPS is specifically designed for animals. Of course, some cats manage to escape. In those cases, owners can thread the shirt's loops through a pet collar. For sizing, it's better to choose a little bit smaller as the shirt is designed to provide a bit of stretch. We recommend placing the shirt on the patient directly after surgery, while leaving the rear end open. This gives the pet a warm, secure feeling and allows for easier adjustment. Pay special attention when a wound is irritating the pet, as they will try to scratch, lick and sometimes bite around the affected area.
Q: What is the difference between the blue, red and green shirts?
A: The color designates which species the shirts are designed for; blue for dogs, red for cats and green for rabbits. Blue shirts have a smaller tail opening, so the shirt must be opened when the dogs are taken out for elimination. Or it can remain closed in cases of incontinence. The red and green shirts have a larger tail opening so pets can use the litter box without removal or opening of the shirt (not for use with incontinence). The red and green shirts are also modified to fit cats' and rabbits' unique anatomy. However, you can always use a dog shirt for a cat or rabbit who requires a smaller tail opening!
Q: Why isn't there an opening on the shirt's underside for urination?
A: If there is a hole on the belly side, it must be large enough to fit the penis and the animal can lick it or to scratch it, posing risk of infection.
Q: Do you have more colors for fashion purposes?
A: No. The MPS shirts are color coded for species for easy identification and reorder.
Q: Can dogs and cats tear it apart or chew on it?
A: Of course! Clinicians can decide if the MPS is suitable for a particular patient. Fortunately most animals accept it. In the case of excessive licking we recommend insertion of gauze or a sanitary pad between the double layers inside to keep the wound dry.
Q: Is the shirt machine washable?
A: Yes, the shirt is washable in cold water only because of the Velcro®. Clients typically purchase two shirts so the patient is covered at all times.
Q: Do you provide a money back guarantee?
A: We guarantee our product and provide refunds for any manufacturing defects.
Q: Is it possible to change sizes if the shirt does not fit?
A: No. For this reason, veterinarians should have all sizes in stock to determine proper fit. We always advise choosing a tighter fit because during usage the MPS-shirts will stretch somewhat.
Q: Are the shirts suitable for rental purposes?
A: No. It's not hygienic for different patients to share such a garment, which in some cases may serve as a bandage.
Q: Are they sold in pet stores?
A: No. The MPS is available only through veterinary clinics.
