Our Company
One Sunday afternoon in 2001 Sol, our 6 year old yellow Shepherd mix sustained a leg injury when mixing it up with Luna on our farm. He underwent an emergency arthrodesis. At discharge, along with dispensing antibiotics and the Elizabethan collar, clinicians at Valley Central Veterinary Referral instructed us to keep the leg bandage dry and gave us a used IV bag for that purpose. Unfortunately, Sol's leg became infected, and he wound up with additional surgeries. Each time, the technicians gave us a used IV bag, and each time we asked if there might be a better solution available in the veterinary market. They always regretfully said, " no." At some point in 2002, Dr. Carlos Hodges suggested that we develop one. So, when visiting a friend in Los Angeles who is handy with her sewing machine, we created our first prototype. From there, we researched waterproof and breathable fabrics, durable, non-skid bottoms, hook and loop closures, and we launched the Medipaw® protective boot at the AVMA Conference in 2004.
Laurie Ketzenberg, Ed.D
Laurie has taught English to immigrants in community colleges since 1993. A lifelong dog lover, she moved from Brooklyn to a farm in the Lehigh Valley where she and her husband Matt enjoyed rural life on several acres with many dogs at their feet. While in graduate school she developed the Medipaw® protective boot because of Sol's injury and founded MediVet Products. Laurie is still an educator but primarily focuses on her business so that other dog owners can benefit from Sol's experience.
Matt Cohen
Co-founder Matt Cohen, who shares his home with a pack of mutts helped develop the Medipaw protective boot out of necessity. His background as an Emmy award winning television producer gave him an opportunity to learn about outdoor gearwear when when producing Trailside, Make your Own Adventure. His technical knowledge comes in handy when selecting materials and working on design. Matt also steps in to help MediVet in all aspects of operations when necessary.
Karen DeLong
Karen worked as a veterinary technician for over 20 years before joining MediVet Products. Animals of all kinds have always been her passion. These days, she and her family enjoy the company of their three Jack Russels.
